Arriving at Marrakech airport is an experience you are unlikely to forget. Once you have stepped through the wall of dry heat and slipped through customs you encounter a circus of enthusiastic taxi drivers vying for your business.
After picking a safe-ish looking vehicle, my girlfriend and I settled into the back seat , wound down the windows and took in the surroundings as we hurtled towards the medina.
As you quickly learn in Marrakech, towns have a central medina, which is the historic walled city centre. The medinas have multiple gates which vary from shoulder-width gaps to spaces wide-enough for two cars. Most riads (guesthouses), hotels and hostels can be located by finding your way to a gate in the city wall, and on arrival to the gate closest to our Riad our, our taxi drive dropped us off. During the trip, things got crazy... wild in fact.... tagines, sheeshas, monkeys, snakes and more......
